With effect from the 1st October 2017, P&O Ferries will be charging an additional surcharge for all IMO-classified hazardous material on the Dover - Calais ferry route.

For many years P&O Ferries have processed and checked Hazardous Goods paperwork for Channel crossings free of charge, offering professional guidance and assistance in order for the documents to be completed and presented for shipment in a safe and correct manner. The safety of people and their infrastructure remains a top priority to their business.

Due to the increasing amount of hazardous goods presented for shipment, this task has become very time consuming, and is often delaying traffic at their check in booths due to the heavy involvement of their port agents.

P&O Ferries can no longer support these costs in full, therefore with effect from 1 October 2017 they will be charging an additional surcharge for all IMO-classified hazardous material. This brings them in line with DFDS who also introduced a hazardous goods surcharge in January.
